ALWAYS BE AWARE – Jacob’s Ladder, The House and Strand(ed)!

Jacob’s Ladder is very happy to announce its new association with The House.  The House is a dynamic organization begun in 2004 and is leading the way in engaging a next generation of inspired Jewish young adults (ages 22 – 35) through creative programming and collaborative community partnerships.  Reaching out to over 1000 Jewish young adults annually The House creates a comfortable environment open to young Jewish adults from all streams of Judaism.

Susan Davis of Sinai Health Foundation along with Bonnie Oppenheimer of The House approached Jacob’s Ladder late this summer to participate in an genetics awareness program entitled Strand(ed).  The purpose was for participants to (ed)ucate themselves on their own genetic makeup. This very successful event was held on September 20, 2016 at Mount Sinai Hospital with Dr. David Chitayat, who we have worked with extensively in the past, speaking to the group attending along with a panel including genetic counsellors Ronni Teitelbaum, Seema Panchal and Melyssa Aronson.  The optional opportunity was also given to sign up with Mount Sinai Hospital staff for a genetics counselling consultation.

Due to great interest, a screening day is being planned in the near future and Jacob’s Ladder, along with our longtime partner National Council of Jewish Women Canada and Toronto Section, look forward to supporting that event.  Once a date is set for the screening it will be posted on our website at jacobsladder.ca.

In the meantime please remember, if you are planning a family and have not yet been screened, visit with your family doctor to arrange free screening at any time.
