HONOURING NORA – OUR CONVERSATION WITH NORA GLASS

According to Ellen:

Nora used to live three doors down from our house. Rumour had it, she was kind, organized and a real go getter. We had also heard that she had been involved with many charities in the past. As our charity was growing, Jeff and I reached out to ask Nora if she could help us with administrative function. We didn’t even know Nora at the time but knew of her reputation and we were in need of help. We literally knocked at her door to meet her for the first time and told her our story. Nora has been our Executive Director since that first meeting. With over 10 years of loyalty, hard work, meticulous organization and passion for Jacob’s Ladder, we cherish Nora every moment.

According to Nora:

How did you come to be involved with Jacob’s Ladder?

I lived on the same street as the Schwartz family, though I didn’t know them at that time. I had just retired from my work at The Children’s Aid Foundation when Ellen introduced herself and approached me to work with her and Jeff at Jacob’s Ladder. I didn’t say yes at first as I was enjoying my newfound freedom, however once I met with the family and with Jacob there was nothing I could do but come on board.

What does your affiliation with Jacob’s Ladder specifically bring to you?

A true sense of contributing to something that is just so right and powerful in its respect for the needs of others.

What does giving mean to you?

Giving is an amazing way of feeling you are doing the right thing, using your resources to help others in your own community and beyond.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Peace.

Which living person do you most admire?

I can’t narrow it down to one. There are so many amazing people doing amazing things.

Who are your heroes in real life?

My Mother. A woman dedicated to family and community. A woman born before her time, a woman who believed in equality for all, the richness of all cultures and in giving of yourself to help others.

What is your dream job (other than the one that you have now)?

To once again be working with young children. I love children and receive so much joy being with them and sharing their take on life.

What is the natural talent you would like to be gifted with?

A beautiful singing voice – although not having one doesn’t stop me from singing!
